Art/Books & Art on the Underground
Art/Books and Art on the Underground approached TSOWC to create a 128page hardback book to document the new permanent installation at Tottenham Court Road Underground Station by the artist Daniel Buren.
Edited by Eleanor Pinfield the book contains a range of large full-bleed photography of the work along with texts by art historian Hans Ulrich Obrist and an interview with writer and broadcaster Tim Marlow.
Daniel Buren’s stripes are legendary, always measuring 8.7 cm. This measurement formed our approach to the book with all text, images and proportions of the book based on this distance.
A public work is interesting for me because you can develop the place, the people who use the space, and connections between all of these things.… Museums attract only a portion of the population. The public in the Tube station is everyone, and there is a constant flux of people running both ways. I want to offer them a beautiful balloon of oxygen for the spirit.
